The history of life on earth has been a history of interaction between living things and their surroundings. To a large extent, the physical form and the habits of the earth's vegetation and its animal life have been molded by the environment. Considering the whole span of earthly time, the opposite effect, in which life actually modifies its surroundings, has been relatively slight. Only in the present century has one species--man acquired significant power to alter the nature of his world.
During the past quarter century this power has not only become increasingly great but it has changed in character. The most alarming of all man's assaults upon the environment is the contaminatien of air, earth, rivers, and sea with dangerous and even lethal materials. This pollution is for the most part irrecoverable. In this now universal contamination of the environment, chemicals are the sinister partners of radiation in changing the very nature of the world, the very nature of itslife.
It took hundreds of millions of years to produce the life that now inhabits the earth. Given time not in years but in millennia life adjusts, and a balance has been reached. But in the modern world there is no time.
It is not my contention that chemical insecticides must never be used. I do contend that we have put poisonous and biologically potent chemicals indiscriminately into the hands of persons largelyor wholly ignorant of their potentials for harm. We have subjected enormous numbers of people to contact with these poisons, without their consent and often without their knowledge. I contend, furthermore, that we have allowed these chemicals to be used with little or no advance investigation of their effect on soil, water, wildlife, and man himself. Future generations are unlikely to forgive our lack of concern for the integrity of the natural world that supports all life.

In my opinion, dormitory is the better choice to live in.
One the one hand, students can learn to get along with each other. No one can live alone, people need to communicate with others, it is an important lesson for college students to learn. Most students have depended on their parents so much, so they don’t have the consciousness to be tolerant and considerate. Living in the dormitory helps the students to be independent and considerate, which will make them to be successful.
On the other hand, living in the dormitory will save students a lot of money. As more students share a room, so it will be very cheap for a student to pay for the room. The students haven’t earned the money, they need to spend their parents’ money, so they should save the money and relieve their parents’ burden.
In all, living in the dormitory is a good choice for a student.

Nowadays, more andmore university students find it hard to find a good job after graduation. However, the employers also fint it difficult in hiring a suitabale staff at the sametime. Why does this happens? I think there must be something related to thegraduates.
First of all, manyemployers find that most students have nothing working experience concerningwith their major. As students’ main job in school is study, employer should notmake too high requirement to them actually. But students should have aninternship before entering the society or at least have a concept about the jobrelated to their specialized subject. Most students know nothing except thetextbook, which makes them feel hard to get start. What’s worse, some graduatesdon’t learn well in school. They neither have experience nor master the theoreticalknowledge. In addition, the majority of students are the little prince andprincess at home. They haven’t suffered any hardship with the protection oftheir parents. As a result, they can’t endure hardship or easily give up whenmeeting difficulties.

(The Bus and the Subway Train)
City traffic is a big problem in some cities in the world, especially in big cities. To solve the problem, someone are in favor of developing buses as means of city traffic. Others are in favor of the subway. Between them, which is the better choice?
It is easier to take buses as means of city traffic than the subway trains because buses don't need special roads. But buses have also many disadvantages, some of which are very serious. They may cause louder noise and more traffic accidents. Buses give rise to serious air pollution and traffic jam. In order to stop what buses cause, a large amount of hand must be used to widen the roads. On the contrary, the subway train is of more advantages. Except the difficulty and high cost of building the subway, it is superior to the buses in many aspects.
Taking the advantages and disadvantages together into consideration,I would be in favor of developing the subway train as soon as possible.
精彩文章人类生存的一篇作文 Man Is to Survive(参考)
Man Is to Survive
Nowadays humanity is faced with a lot of troublesome problems: energy threatening the survival of humanity. Therefore, stone people are pessimistic about the future of humanity.
They are pessimistic because they think that limited energy on earth will be exhausted soon; incurable diseases are threatening more people's lives; pollution is worsening the environment; population explosion will make food shortage even more serious.
Actually they needn't worry too much about these problems. Scientists will have developed new energy resources by the time oil and coal are used up. Besides, scientists are making a thorough study of genes and they will manage to cure cancer by adjusting the arrangement of genes. They are also making efforts to control pollution and population. Furthermore, all the governments in the world are concerned about these problems and they have taken measures to solve these problems.
Therefore, we have every reason to be sure that human beings will conquer nature but they will never be conquered.

Viewing vs.Reading
The pace of reading, clearly, depends entirely upon the reader. He may read as slowly or as rapidly as he can or wishes to read. If he does not understand something, he may stop and reread it, or go in search of elucidation before continuing. The reader can accelerate his pace when the material is easy or less than interesting, and slow down when it is difficult or absorbing. If what he reads is moving, he can put down the book for a few moments and cope with his emotions without fear of losing anything. The pace of the television experience cannot be controlled by the viewer; only its beginning and end are within his control as he clicks the knob on and off. He cannot slow down a delightful program or speed up a dreary one. He cannot "turn back" if a word or phrase is not understood. The pro-gram moves inexorably forward, and what is lost or misunderstood remains so. Nor can the television viewer readily transform the material he receives into a form that might suit his particular emotional needs, as he invariably does with material he reads. The images move too quickly. He cannot use his own imagination to invest the people and events portrayed on televisionwith the personal meanings that would help him understand and resolve relationships and conflicts in his own life~ he is under the power of the imagination of the show's creators. In the television experience the eyes and ears are overwhelmed with the immediacy of sights and sounds. If someone enters the room while one is watching television--a friend, a relative, a child, someone, perhaps, one has not seen for some time--one must continue to watch or one will lose the thread. The greetings must wait, for the television program will not. A book, of course, can be set aside, with a little regret, perhaps, but with no sense of permanent loss.
